    Will it be reported on the BBC News though?

    A good turnout and watched it on Livestream very good humoured.

    Hi Peter, do you have an estimate of how many were there?
    The gritted teeth BBC report said 'hundreds', but according to them there were only a couple of thousand at Calton hill..

      Futile to speculate on these things, Sean.

      Newsnet hoped for 1700. I think consensus among organisers is they probably got that, among BBC, police and Better Together that they didn't The only shots of crowds that give any real idea are aerial shots - don't think there was one.

      Best estimates are 1500-2200, but it's probably leave both BBC and enthusiasts to luxuriate in their respective inflated or minimised fantasy estimates.

      Given the agenda of the protest, essential tenets of belief are that the BBC won't report the event (they did, but fleetingly) and that police and BBC will underestimate the numbers (BBC did - don't know about police)

      Watching it on the direct feed, it seemed like a good day out. I'm sure it contributed little to changing the entrenched behaviour of the BBC managment, made the beleagured journalists feel even more paranoid, reinforced the prejudices of the No camp about nutty Nats, (e.g. David Leasky of Herald on Twitter) and boosted the morale of YES supporters no end.

      It also produced one 'turn' that should be preserved - a man with a fake guitar, a kazoo and worst voice I've ever heard, allied to boundless enthusiasm. That's my Glesca!

      All part of the rich mix of a country struggling to be free of the old ways. I think we're going to do it!
